1. Google - is an American public corporation, earning revenue from advertising related to its Internet search, e-mail, online mapping, office productivity, social networking, and video sharing services as well as selling advertising-free versions of the same technologies.

2. Yahoo - is an American public corporation headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, (in Silicon Valley), that provides Internet services worldwide. The company is perhaps best known for its web portal, search engine (Yahoo! Search), Yahoo! Directory, Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! News, advertising, online mapping (Yahoo! Maps), video sharing (Yahoo! Video), and social media websites and services.

3. MSN - is a collection of Internet sites and services provided by Microsoft. The Microsoft Network debuted as an online service and Internet service provider on August 24, 1995, to coincide with the release of the Windows 95 operating system.

4. AOL - (also known by its callsign meaning America Online) is an American global Internet services and media company operated by Time Warner. It is headquartered at 770 Broadway in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Founded in 1983 as Quantum Computer Services, it has franchised its services to companies in several nations around the world or set up international versions of its services.

5. Netscape - (formerly known as Netscape Communications Corporation and commonly known as Netscape) was a US computer services company, best known for its web browser. The browser was once dominant in terms of usage share, but lost most of that share to Internet Explorer during the first browser war.


6. Overture - Overture was originally launched in 1997 and was powered on the original world wide web worm system. In 1998, Overture reverted to the pay per placement business model and has become the industry leader in this category of search engine.

7. Altavista - is a web search engine owned by Yahoo!. AltaVista was once one of the most popular search engines but its popularity has waned with the rise of Google.

8. AllTheWeb - is an Internet search engine that debuted in mid-1999. It grew out from FTP Search, Tor Egge's doctorate thesis at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, which he started on in 1994, which in turn resulted in the formation of Fast Search and Transfer established on July 16, 1997.

9. Lycos - is a search engine and web portal with broadband entertainment content.

10. AskJeeves - (or Ask.com) is a search engine started in 1996 by Garrett Gruener and David Warthen in Berkeley, California. The original search engine software was implemented by Gary Chevsky from his own design. Chevsky, Justin Grant, and others built the early AskJeeves.com website around that core engine.
